The President Speaks to you
Vivek Nair

Dear Members,

I am pleased to note that leading Hotels in the Region, as well as the various Institutes of Hotel Management functioning in Western India, have responded to the appeal made by the Association for an effective Industry exposure to faculty members. You will appreciate, that such co-operation will update and upgrade the faculty members to Industry practices and at the same time, the Industry can also closely interact with the teaching faculty. The Association, through its Core Committee, is also planning to identify certain trainers who will visit Hotels from place to place, to upgrade the craft as well as managerial skills of employees in the Industry.

I would like to assure you, that it will be your Committee's endeavour to extend man-power planning and training service to the members during the coming months, especially to the smaller Hotels & Restaurants. I firmly believe, that through such sustained training efforts, the quality of services rendered by the Industry will improve greatly, giving value for money to our honoured guests.

You will be pleased to note, that the programme of the 40th FHRAI Convention, scheduled to take place at Dubai from 09th to 11th Sept. 2004 is getting finalized. A separate first information flyer is being sent out to all the members across the country, and I am confident that you would not like to miss this opportunity to be present at this Industry gathering, which will give you an insight into the mind boggling changes that Dubai has effected in its tourism infrastructure for adding one lakh guest rooms.

The Convention will deliberate around the theme "INDIATOURISM THE WAY AHEAD" and the infrastructural needs of the Indian Tourism sector, of which the Hotel Industry is indeed a vital part. Eminent speakers, both from India and abroad, will make presentations on fundamental issues, like building Up the Hotel inventory to cater to 5 million tourists in the next 4 to 5 years. Human Resources, adoption of new technology and off course investment in tourism infrastructure would also be discussed.

The Convention will provide the delegates an opportunity to compare the tremendous achievements made by UAE in garnering

over 5 million tourists every year, and about 19 million tourists transiting through Dubai every year. The destination promotion methodology will be most enlightening for us to see, and I am sure the interactive sessions with the local hoteliers should be also quite absorbing.

A session is also planned with potential investors who would like to invest in the Indian Hotel Industry. Hoteliers wishing to pursue investment opportunities in Dubai, like in the Palm island, would also have a session planned for them.

To one and all, the Convention would indeed be a memorable one, and I would appeal to you and your spouse to register for the event soon, as the response to the proposal so far has indeed been tremendous. Special rates are being negotiated with Emirates, Air India & Gulf Air, as well as with the various categories of Hotels to make the whole package an affordable one.

With the Parliamentary Elections over and the results declared, the political uncertainty has now come to a close. I am hopeful that, both the Union and the State Governments in Western India, will now address themselves to the issues which the tourism sector confronts itself with, for rapid economic progress. With the recognition that it is the highest employment generator, I expect even more proactive approach than in the past
