HRAWI Organize Seminar on Google Applications and Digital Convergence

To help hoteliers gain insight into various aspects of Google applications and digital convergence and how it can be utilized for the hospitality industry, the hotel and restaurant association HRA (WI) organized a seminar on Google Applications and Digital Convergence. Noted speakers from the industry participated in the seminar. It was organized at The Hotel Diplomat, Apollo Bunder, and Mumbai recently.

Commenting upon the reason behind organizing the seminar, Dinesh Advani, Senior VP, HRAWI said, “Hoteliers also need to be abreast with the latest innovations and technologies and that is the reason, we have organized this seminar to keep them aware about the latest trends.”

Mr. Gangoly gave a presentation on some of the various Google applications one could make use of in day to day working of individuals / office / business.

In his presentation he highlighted the following points:

GOOGLE APPS
Google applications are a reliable and secure web-based office tool for any type and size of business.  It has an average 25GB of e-mail storage per employee.  Applications can be available for at least 99% of the time.  Applications like G-mail and calendar can be in sync with ones mobile.

GOOGLE SITES
An individual can create dynamic web pages easily for a team project.  No coding or HTML is required.

All information like spreadsheets can be organized and stored in a central place.  Google Sites can be used to centralize documents, spreadsheets, presentations, videos, slideshows and more to help keep teams organized.

One can access it anytime or anywhere i.e. from the office, from home and even from your Blackberry / i-phone / smart phones.

GOOGLE CALENDERS
Individuals can manage meetings on line with the help of a Google Calendar.  It is a web based calendar which helps employees to work together efficiently.

It helps in the easy scheduling of appointments.  Instead of checking with ‘n’ number of people as regards their availability for a meeting / appointment telephonically, it is possible to have an overlay of multiple calendars available on the Google site for people to check the availability of the respective people on a particular date / time and then accordingly fix up the meeting / appointment.

Calendars can be shared either company wide or with select personnel of the organization after sending an invite to the respective persons.

One can even view and edit the calendar and invite guests on mobile devices like the Blackberry / i-phone.

G-MAIL
G-mail is used both for personal as well as business mails.  It offers 25GB storage per user.

You can work on your g-mail from anywhere i.e. your desk / home/ while traveling / or from your mobile phone.

It can be in sync with familiar platforms like Outlook and Outlook Express as well as your mobile phones like Blackberry / i-phone.

Mail archival – Mail can be stored for the past 10 years and can be accessed whenever one needs to track any mail.

GOOGLE DOCS
This is basically MS office available on-line.

Documents, spreadsheets, drawings and presentations are available online that allows users to edit the same file simultaneously when one is entering the data so that the latest version is always available anytime.

It is accessible anytime and from anywhere i.e. desk / home / mobile even when you wish to work off-line.

Files stores on Google Docs are always accessible and backed up online.
